Meet The Writers of South Park

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have kept their Comedy Central show “South Park” fresh by using current events, political figures and celebrities as fodder for their mocking. Co-Creator Trey Parker, as head writer , has written for almost every episode. However, the show does have a large creative team. It might be a surprise how many women write for this adult cartoon. While none of the central characters are women, female writers have participated in a large portion of the writing in its 15 seasons. Nancy Pimental has a degree in chemical engineering and studied acting. She wrote a film that starred Cameron Diaz in 2002 and is currently working on another show. Carol Watson only worked on two episodes of “South Park”, “Pink Eye and “Merry Christmas Charlie Manson”. Ms. Watson co-wrote two of the last “Friday 13th” movies.

As happens in sitcom writing teams several women writers come in for one or two episodes, like Daisy Gardner on episode 608, “Red Hot Catholic Love” and Trisha Nixon for episodes 201 and 210. Not surprising for “South Park”, Ms. Nixon’s controversial episode 201 caused upset and controversy. Writer Dani Michaeli, one of the writers on 8 shows has also contributed many times to “SpongeBob Squarepants” and has worked in many different positions on television and film. As a film producer she has worked on 6 documentaries about movies.

The show’s film, “South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut” was also co-authored by a female writer, Pam Brady. Ms. Brady wrote several “South Park” episodes, returning many times to pitch in. Her longest stretch writing for the show lasted almost 100 episodes.

With its use of topical themes “South Park” writers have endless topics. There is no end of popular culture to present through their popular characters Cartman, Stan, kyle and Kenny.
